Understand and prepare to address the complexities of aging across diverse cultures.

The population is aging at an unprecedented rate, which creates a growing demand for professionals with knowledge and training in aging studies to understand and improve the well-being of older people. This program introduces you to the issues, 问题, 视角, 需要, and contributions of older persons. In Aging Studies classes, you will gain a deep understanding of the physiological, 心理, 社会, and 经济 aspects of aging, and acquire 研究 and practical skills critical to your professional development, including program planning and evaluation, 政策分析, geriatric assessment, and working with diverse populations. You will be prepared for leadership roles in aging services, 政策, 研究, 和宣传, and cultivate 文化 competence in interactions with older individuals, 家庭, 和社区. The majority of Aging Studies classes are offered online and at both midday and evening times, to offer maximum flexibility for students.

In this program, you will:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of aging processes, 包括社会, 文化, 经济, 健康方面, enabling you to critically analyze and address the 需要, 权利, and well-being of older adults.
  • Acquire 研究 skills and interdisciplinary knowledge in gerontology, 心理学, 社会学, 公共卫生, 和政策, equipping you to design and implement innovative programs, 政策, and interventions that promote 健康y aging and enhance the quality of life for older adults
  • Cultivate inter文化 competence, 同理心, and communication skills, preparing you to engage with diverse populations, collaborate with stakeholders, and advocate for age-friendly environments and inclusive practices at the global level

Career Possibilities

Coordinate and manage programs and services for older adults in government agencies, non-profit organizations, or community centers, addressing their 社会, 健康, 经济需求. Work with 健康care providers to develop and implement effective care plans. Or, conduct 研究 on aging-related issues to contribute to evidence-based 政策 and practice in the field of gerontology. These are just a few of the possibilities.
